Cranes & Spares / Maintenance Steelworks Cranes Butterley produces a complete range of steelworks cranes that have been supplied worldwide. Crane types include: Hot metal ladle cranes either 2 or 4 girder with conventional or 6 rail design, up to a capacity of 550 tonnes, stiff-masted ingot charters, stripper cranes, telescopic stiff-masted cranes for racked coil handling, plus a full range of heavy duty mill cranes for handling rolled products and general service work. Special cranes such as Ladle Teeming Carriage and Transfer Bogies are also available backed up by client consultation with our engineers. Power and Nuclear Industries Cranes supplied into this market is usually classified as high integrity. Such equipment incorporates many design features, which give added safety when working in hazardous environments. One such feature is the X-Sam system supplied under license from the Ederer Corporation of the USA, adapted by Butterley who modified it to meet the client’s specific needs. This system is currently fitted to cranes that work above the pile cap of several existing nuclear power stations and was selected by the Nuclear Industry for the polar crane which is installed above the Sizewell ‘B’ reactor. Many cranes supplied into this specific market place often utilise sophisticated control systems and remote operation via pre-programmed PLC controllers, necessitated by the extremely hazardous working environments in certain areas. Conventional power station cranes designed for single and tandem lifts are also supplied and include sophisticated controls. Dockside Cranes Butterley have extensive experience in the design, manufacture and
installation of Dockside cranes. These range from general-purpose cranes
to high performance grabbing cranes. Portal cranes are designed to meet specific applications and topliss revving is incorporated to give level luffing. Various luffing mechanisms can be provided including hydraulic, rope and rack systems. The latest electronic equipment permits fine and accurate positional control of hook or grab in the most demanding of environments meeting stringent customer requirements. Spares & Maintenance Butterley spares service department provides not only consumables spares for routine maintenance and outage, but also for breakdowns. Spares for both Mechanical and Electrical equipment are supplied. Our own in – house manufacturing facility makes fabricated assemblies such as rope drums and wheels. Major items like Gearboxes are supplied fully fitted or Refurbished with the clients free issue parts. Re-programming of PLC is a service available or up-grade to include additional fail-safe limits to stop cab crash and lift strikes. |

Inspection, Refurbishment and Modifications are also handled by the Spares Department supported by Butterley Engineers. The spares department has drawings and handbooks for Butterley cranes, John Smith cranes, Adamson Butterley Cranes and Adamson Alliance cranes and can access other manufacturers. Site visits can also be arranged to identify spares or in-service equipment and to recommend and advise on stocking levels required as part of an on-site maintenance programme. Maintenance has move up a gear at Butterley, not only do we have the highly trained staff available to handle routine maintenance & outage, we are also undertake maintenance of all plant cranes, reducing service costs and offering an improved run time to those industries that relay on essential services been maintained throughout the year. |
